Since not a single biomarker has been found for this disorder we will focus our efforts in understanding how relevant are the main oxidative/nitrosative stress and inflammation in this context, as well as their interactions with some neuro-psychiatric manifestations of this disease. We will also insist on analyzing and developing new models of IBS in rats and understanding how the oxidative/nitrosative stress and inflammatory markers are influencing the various subtypes of IBS, its gender-related differences, as well as its genetic substrates alterations.
